Hold This For Me...
Kameron my longtime boyfriend informed me we would be meeting another couple for dinner at a resort in Scottsdale. Although I anticipated what the night would really entail, I tried not to get my hopes up, just in case my timing was off.

We made the drive to the Grand Hyatt Resort at Gainey Ranch where we arrived 'early'. He decided we should take a walk through the beautiful gardens while awaiting the other couple's arrival. As we walked we noticed a sign for Gondola rides, and he suggested that we go.

I was enjoying the beauty of the lake and the voice of the man serenading us as the sun set behind the mountains. I noticed throughout the ride he would reach into his pocket causing me to tense up only to be disappointed when he just checked the time on his cell phone and placed it back in his pocket.

After the romantic ride was over, he led me to a balcony that was surrounded with flowers, trees, lakes, and the beautiful lights that lit up the elegant resort. As we sat and 'waited' for our guests to arrive he decided that I had waited long enough.

Kameron began fidgeting with his keys, cell phone, and the spare change in his pocket, so I asked if he would like me to hold his things in my purse. He agreed and started to unload pockets full of trinkets to fill my purse. After he handed me the last of it, he reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a diamond ring and said 'Do you want to hold this for me too?!' I think the shock on my face worried him, and that's when he blurted out 'Will you marry me?'

He had forgotten to get down on one knee! I just laughed and said "YES'!! This was perfect for me because it showed the epitome of the man I had just agreed to marry! A loving, goofy and sometimes clueless, but someone who always puts me first type of man. The type of man I had always hoped to marry, and now was!!

Way to Go Jay...
My wife and soon to be father-in-law both worked for the same company.  At his company he had a jewelry division to which I convinced the manager to allow me to order a custom diamond ring and pay for it without him knowing.

After having lunch with my soon-to-be father-in-law and asking permission to ask his daughter to marry me I took a quick trip to grab the diamond ring from her office and then headed on out without my future fiancee' seeing me.

I had the evening planned at the place where we first met and had our first date.  During the meal I decided to just out of the blue get down on one knee and propose to her to which she thankfully said "Yes" right away.  We finished up our meal, went back to my house where I had dessert and about 5 bouquets of flowers waiting.

I found out later from her that a co-worker of hers, Jay, came into her office shortly after I left and said to her, "Where's Doug?".  She told him she wouldn't think I would have been there and he told her he had seen me in the jewelry manager's office...at that moment she said he got white and quickly said, "Oh....you know I don't think I did see him I guess." and quickly left.

She put 2 and 2 together....smart little woman she is....and even though she was going to tell me she was a bit too tired to go out to dinner that night, she decided to go home...grab a shower, put on a nice dress and got all made up for the evening she knew was going to be a fabulous one.  So much for surprise engagements.....way to go Jay.

We lit the night on fire!
My girlfriend and I had been dating for a couple of years and marriage was on our minds. Two weeks before I planned to pop the question I took her on a shopping spree and told her we needed to get something fancy to wear to my employers' annual "banquet". She picked a beautiful dress not knowing what I was really planning.

Two weeks later came and I had made reservations for dinner at a fabulous Tucson Resort in the foothills. The night was flowing perfect as we walked around the resort soaking up the ambiance. The evening was cooling off and the sun was barely shining on the mountains, saguaro cactus and the lakes surrounded us. We walked to a secluded spot which I had previously selected. I took her by the hand and got down on one knee. She instantly started to cry as I explained that there was no "banquet" and my intentions were to express my deepest love for her and said "Please marry me!" Although I knew I didn't have to beg I look back and should have put more thought into that part, but she said "yes" either way.

We continued the night with a romantic dinner inside the resorts restaurant and upon completion we stood from our chairs and began to leave. A few moments later I realized I had left my debit card sitting inside the folder and returned to find it. As we came down the stairs to the "private area" I looked at the table and realized it was on fire! My new fiancée had dropped the cloth napkin on top of a candle which set the table ablaze! After patting down the flames with another napkin and help from our server I laughed as I realized she would always be the "flame" of my life!
